Project STRYM (Top 30)

Mission

Our mission is to enable people and businesses of all sizes to offset their emissions and restore oceanic ecosystems in the most easy and comprehensible way. We want to guarantee responsible compensations of emission that show real results!

The challenge

The problem is global warming and the destruction of ocean ecosystems. The concentration of CO2 in the air is unfortunately still rising, and estimations are that the climate goals will not be reached. Currently, planting trees is one of the most familiar methods. However, this takes years and the exact outcomes have shown to be different from the promised expectations due to the complexity of the natural environment. The need is the offset of emissions to reach climate goals in a responsible, scalable and affordable way. As for now, the voluntary carbon market is around 2 Billion dollars in size, and hundreds of projects have been performed in the Netherlands. We expect regulations to change so trading compensations on the Emission Trading System will be possible.

The solution

We aim to compensate CO2 gasses in the air by increasing the capacity of the ocean to absorb CO2. We propose to do this using advanced weathering, e.g. strengthening the natural oceanic carbon cycle using the natural mineral olivine. Our main activity would be to distribute Olivine into the ocean, compensating 1 tonne of CO2 for every tonne of Olivine. The other side of the process is to allow companies to compensate their emissions using our system in an easy and comprehensible way.
