Stratos Dynamics
Mission
To provide affordable and multi-functional stratospheric glide aircraft.
The challenge
Our stratospheric glide aircraft start-up intends to addresses three primary challenges on a phased basis: 1. Current atmospheric data collection relies on single-use weather balloons that drift unpredictably and who’s sensors are rarely recovered. This creates pollution and results in increased costs. 2. Existing satellite infrastructure is prohibitively expensive and rigid, making it difficult to integrate rapid changes in sensor or communication technology.
The solution
Low-cost high-altitude balloon launched gliders. We get rid of the expensive and heavy propulsion system, allowing the aircraft to go further for cheaper utilising prevailing stratospheric winds to extend glide range without a thermal heat signature. 1. We intend to house weather balloon's data collection sensors within our drone, allowing them to autonomously return to base once the balloon pops. This means no wasted sensors and less pollution. 2. A high altitude drone can similarly be fitted with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sensors as well as communication relays for missions within a certain distance.
