Infrastructure monitoring software (InfraDCM) (semi-finalist)
Mission
Our mission is to reach sustainable infrastructure with intelligent monitoring systems.
The challenge
Current methods for infrastructure monitoring are costly, time-consuming, and frequently destructive. Typically, road authorities must undertake multiple steps, including halting traffic, drilling core samples from road surfaces, conducting at least three stages of laboratory testing on the samples, retrieving raw experimental data, and consulting experts for data analysis. Based on this analysis, the experts eventually provide a corrective maintenance plan, which is often delayed and expensive. In the Netherlands, this process costs approximately 3.3 billion euros annually. It represents a continuous burden for road authorities such as Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), municipalities, and contractors.
The solution
Our solution is a data-driven predictive software that enables on-site analysis of infrastructure conditions. It provides users with three levels of information: (1) material quality control, which is essential for authorities to verify compliance with contractual specifications; (2) current assessment of road conditions, relevant for both authorities and contractors within the framework of the contract; and (3) prediction of the remaining service life of the road, which is critical for infrastructure owners and public authorities in planning maintenance and budgeting.
